Endless Possibilities: Sunny skies and mountains high (The Journey Book 3) Endless Possibilities Craig BriggsThis is the third book of a series that tells of Craig and his wife Melanie Briggs’ move from Yorkshire to Canabal near Monforte de Lemos in the province of Galica in NE Spain. With fluence and ease the author recounts the day-to-day happenings at the point in their on-going adventure when they have decided that they should invest in a rental property to enhance their revenue and add greater challenges to their busy lives. By the time they find the investment property they want, the author has introduced you to both the red and white wines he ferments himself from his own vines; the challenges of having orthopedic footwear tailor-made in Galicia; early attempts at vine pruning and then spraying; a quick car-trip back to the UK; a failed effort to install an automatic lawn-sprinkler system; a visit from old friends and a potted history of how the friendship came about; the challenges of telling jokes that depend for their punchline on a particular accent; how both human and animal sewage are dealt with in rural Galicia; a deal to drill a new well; and the consideration and rejection of a prior potential property.All of these anecdotes, some as gripping as the episodes in a good soap-opera, are told with such humour, sensitivity and insight that you learn a lot you didn’t previously know and so welcome the author’s delaying tactic. In fact, you begin to welcome his strategy as a form of deferred gratification – you know he’s going to take you eventually to the destination and that on the road he will make a multitude of fascinating detours. Some of these will be self-deprecating accounts of how inept the author himself can be with the various maintenance, repair and agronomic tasks he has willingly (sometimes unwittingly) taken on and yet how apt at finding the right assistance to guarantee success.Much of the charm of Endless Possibilities arises from the intentional choice that the author and his wife made to settle in a relatively little-known part of Spain as far as they could distance themselves from tourist developments, overcrowded beaches and look-alike British bars. Craig Briggs, accompanied by Melanie, does an excellent job of guiding you by little-known by-ways through the beautiful countryside into the villages, churches, cemeteries, houses, kitchens, dining-rooms, barns and vineyards of the rural Gallego family – as well as into their own busy lives.And much, much more!
